The Gadfly is a series of letters offering commentary on local issues and published in the Warrensburg Gazette.

The Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center tells me it won’t have the information requested (see the June 28th Gazette) until the 13th – and they want to be paid a dollar a page to make it available. Since I don’t have any more information on how they’re spending tax dollars, I thought I’d update folks on something that’s being created for Warrensburg without needing lots of tax dollars - Blind Boone Park. There’s a lot of progress – new landscaping, a new information board and sign going in, running water and more. Drive by if you haven’t lately.

Blind Boone Park will have its first on-site cultural activity! On Saturday, July 28th, 1 PM, there will be art, poetry and music in the park. It’s something called the Dragonfly Extravaganza Company. You can read the details on the “Activities” page at www.blindboonepark.org.

Park supporters will have a bronze miniature of the Blind Boone statue available soon. It will be on display at various places in town and will eventually be sold to raise funds for the big statue. The Park group also has CDs taken from Boone’s piano rolls, his biography, a history of the park, and lots of other goodies available. The website has an order form or you can get them at the Teehaus downtown.

If you want to help at the park, come to the 400 block of West Pine Street (at the first curve) any Wednesday about 6 PM.
